Classic Hamburger Steaks with Onion Gravy

For the hamburger steaks:
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/3 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 1 tbsp oil (for cooking)
For the onion gravy:
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 2 tbsp butter
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
👨🍳 Instructions:
- Make the patties:
In a bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, chopped onion, garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix well and form into 4 patties. - Cook the steaks:
Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook the patties for about 4–5 minutes per side until browned and cooked through. Remove and set aside. - Prepare the onion gravy:
In the same skillet, melt butter and sauté the sliced onions until soft and golden. Stir in the flour and cook for 1 minute. Gradually add beef broth, stirring constantly until the gravy thickens. Add Worcestershire sauce and season with salt and pepper. - Simmer together:
Return the hamburger steaks to the skillet. Spoon gravy over the top and let simmer for 5–10 minutes.
