Classic Hamburger Steaks with Onion Gravy

🧂 Ingredients:

For the hamburger steaks:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/3 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 tbsp oil (for cooking)

For the onion gravy:

  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste

👨‍🍳 Instructions:

  1. Make the patties:
    In a bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, chopped onion, garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix well and form into 4 patties.
  2. Cook the steaks:
    Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook the patties for about 4–5 minutes per side until browned and cooked through. Remove and set aside.
  3. Prepare the onion gravy:
    In the same skillet, melt butter and sauté the sliced onions until soft and golden. Stir in the flour and cook for 1 minute. Gradually add beef broth, stirring constantly until the gravy thickens. Add Worcestershire sauce and season with salt and pepper.
  4. Simmer together:
    Return the hamburger steaks to the skillet. Spoon gravy over the top and let simmer for 5–10 minutes.
