If you’re craving a meal that feels like a warm hug from grandma’s kitchen, Country Fried Steak with Gravy is the answer. Crispy, golden-brown cube steak smothered in creamy homemade gravy—this dish brings the heart of Southern cooking straight to your plate. Whether served with mashed potatoes or buttermilk biscuits, it’s the ultimate comfort food that never goes out of style.

🥩 Ingredients:

For the Steak:

  • 4 cube steaks (about 4 oz each)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup milk
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

For the Gravy:

  • 2 tablespoons flour (use leftover seasoned flour if available)
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

🍳 Instructions:

Step 1: Prepare the Dredge Station

In one bowl, beat together the eggs and ½ cup milk.
In another bowl, combine flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.

Step 2: Coat the Steaks

Pat cube steaks dry with a paper towel. Dip each one in the egg mixture, then dredge in the seasoned flour, pressing gently to coat. For extra crunch, dip again in egg and flour.

Step 3: Fry the Steaks

Heat about ½ inch of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot (350°F if using a thermometer), carefully fry the steaks one or two at a time. Cook for 3–4 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy. Transfer to a plate lined with paper towels.

Step 4: Make the Gravy

Drain most of the oil from the skillet, leaving about 2 tablespoons and the flavorful brown bits. Sprinkle in 2 tablespoons flour and whisk to make a roux. Cook for about 1 minute.

Slowly add 2 cups of milk, whisking constantly to avoid lumps. Simmer until thickened, about 3–5 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

Step 5: Serve

Plate the crispy steaks and generously pour the creamy gravy on top. Garnish with parsley or a dash of black pepper if desired.
